My first solo hike through Virginia in 1994 got me addicted to the solo long distance
hiking. In 1995 at the age of 15, I started hiking two days after high
school let out and finished on Katahdin three days before school began.
This trip gave me a good feeling trail community which I have come to love.
The trip lasted about 2 and a half months and covered around 1200 miles.

Taking a break in Massachusetts.

You see strange things on the trail like ducks on mountain tops.
This was a pet duck that rode on back of a hiker's pet dog. Sunrise

Every day in New York and Massachusetts was above 100 degrees for me.
Water was hard to find. I drank straight from this puddle.
Yes that is a frog and other bugs. |
I can't remember this guys name but we hiked the south half of the
presidential range in NH in the morning. After a long break we hiked
the northern half at night. That is the almost full moon rising
behind the sign. |
I hiked on and off with an amazing guy named "herbsman." He knew
almost all the wild edible/medicinal plants. Here we are enjoying
food that some tourists gave us at Pinkum Notch, NH. By the way I ate
Annie's Macaroni and cheese 70 out of the 75 nights that trip |

The summit at the end. That's a bagel in my mouth. I was
a big bagel fan and must have really missed bagels after 75 days of
hiking. |
